Many aspects of the Yelp app, such as check-ins, seeing "Nearby" feeds, and local searches are not optimized unless you allow Yelp to use your device's location. With location access enabled on your device, the Yelp app will default to your current location when it's opened and a search is entered. You can change this default location by tapping on the location bar and entering a new one.
You can also adjust your settings to allow Yelp to receive your location while the app runs in the background. This allows you to receive updates about nearby businesses and events via push notification, and better personalizes your local experience on Yelp.
